It
started in 1993.
The
success story of BRT Recycling Technologie GmbH began with
consulting and plant design for sorting and recovery plants.
Only
one year later the development of the SCHLITZ-O-MAT Bag Opener was
completed. Until then, no working solution for the problem of
opening of bags with household or commercial waste extisted. In the
same year, the first machines were sold to German customers.
The Bag Opener from Tecklenburg was a success right from the
start.
The technology captivates by its extremely high bag opening rate.
Even oversized and most difficult materials are processed without
problems. In very short time, the SCHLITZ-O-MAT Bag Opener made BRT
well known all around the world.
In 1999, BRT started license manufacturing of Bag Openers in
Japan
. From there, the Asian markets are supplied with advanced
technology.
Currently, more than 300 machines are working worldwide.
The
product range was extended soon. As
early as 1999, BRT broke the SEP-O-MAT Waste Paper Sorting Systems
into the market. The product programme is permanently advanced and
perfected. Today, BRT provides sophisticated solutions for all tasks
and materials.
The other well known and renowned BRT products are DOS-O-MAT Feed
and Metering Hoppers, CARG-O-MAT Moving Floor Conveyors, BAL-O-MAT
Bale Breakers, and the new SORT-O-MAT Ballistic Separator.
Today, machines from the German company are working in almost every
country around the globe.

| CARG-O-MAT
Moving Floor Conveyor: all-round System |
The
name Moving Floor Conveyor does not surmise the all round system contained
in this BRT product.
 |
|
This
system was only used in trucks. BRT was the first machine supplier
who recognized the mani-fold fields of application of this idea,
examined it closely and developed this idea systematically to one of
the most universal transport medium.
Moving Floor Conveyors consist of a number of push-boards. Connected
either with labyrinth sealings, or hermetically closed, they form a
plane transport and storing surface.
The push-boards move
hydraulically and transport the material in three-four time. |
| The
modular design enables manufacturing of units in every length and
width. CARG-O-MAT Moving Floor Conveyors can also be integrated in
existing hoppers. They can be used inside and outside. A reinforced
version is designed for maximum duty and is driveable by truck.
|
The
simple and robust design transports al materials reliably – from
featherweight to ton loads. No matter if bulky, granular, or even
sticky and humid. By now, material as different as lightweight
packaging material, cardboard and paper, biowaste, construction
waste, RDF, commercial waste, WEEE material, or plastic shreds, is
transported with this BRT system.
CARG-O-MAT Moving Floor Conveyors with Dosing Unit work
automatically. The Moving Floor Conveyor transports the material
steadily to the Dosing Unit which loosens it up and presents the
material in an even, continuous flow to the downstream processes.
The large volume hopper discharges automatically. The filling
personnel can do other work until the hopper has to be replenished.
The transport speed and working speed of the Dosing Unit are
adjustable. The dosing process can be minutely controlled. Even
bulky and difficult parts can be processed without danger of
material jam. The transport speed can be adjusted need-based.
With their large experience gained in a large number of projects
worldwide, BRT provides sophisticated solutions for all applications.

One
Million Tonnes Waste Paper with SEP-O-MAT
Rotor Screen
|
SEP-O-MAT
Rotor Screens from BRT meet increasing interest from paper sorting
companies. Customers from
Spain
,
Portugal
,
Denmark
,
Irland
,
Germany
,
Austria
and the
United States
employ these screens for cardboard separation, or as fine screen.
Mostly, the screens are used in combination with the approved Feed and
Metering Hoppers from BRT.
Besides the high separating preciseness, variability, and low servicing
requirements, the customers appreciate the screens’ low purchase and
operating costs.
However, most customers are still not aware of the extreme longevity of
this screening technology.
 |
|
 |
For
example, look into a site run by one of the largest German recycling
companies.
In 1999, this company purchased a BRT Feed and Metering Hopper with a
double screen unit. One rotor screen separates cardboard, the other one
sieves the fines.
During the past eight years, these components have mostly been operated in
three-shift mode. By now, the total working time exceeds as much as 40.000
operating hours.
Accordingly, in short one million tonnes of waste paper will have been
processed by the SEP-O-MAT Rotor Screens.
At
the end of this year, the site will be reconstructed and optimised. Of
course, the recycling company will have the new generation of SEP-O-MAT
Rotor Screens from BRT installed after rebuilding, heading for the next
million tonnes.

PERF-O-MAT Perforators – in use all over
Europe
|
When PET bottles or other plastic containers are
pressed, it is important to produce bales as stackable and heavy as
possible. Such bale qualities can only be achieved when the material is
perforated so that the air can escape during the pressing process. A
plausible and very important fact.
The German based BRT Recycling Technologie GmbH is one of the most
important manufacturers of perforators. The machines with the trade name
PERF-O-MAT have successfully been sold since six years. By now,
more than 100 units are in use all over
Europe
.
With a perforating rate of min. 95% and a throughput rate of up to 160 m³
per hour, the PERF-O-MAT
Perforators prepare the material in an optimal way for the subsequent
pressing. The material density for producing press bales can be increased
fourfold.
The PERF-O-MAT Perforators stand out for their high reliability and
functionality. The perforating knives are made of a special steel which is
extremely durable and can be resharpened. Even aluminium cans can not harm
these knives. If necessary, the knife bar can fast and easily be exchanged.
When a bottle passes the perforator it is not only peforated but flattened
at the same time. The flat bottle can no longer roll on the conveyor belt.
This effect is important for inclined belts leading to the bale press.
Also, the optical sorting systems profit by increasing their sorting
quality and quantity. When the bottles move on the accelerated conveyor
belt below the optical sorter, the
required sorting capacity can not be reached.
BRT supplies standard units in various working widths, as well as mobile
units with funnel for feeding with front-end
loader. A large number of recycling companies use the BRT
technology for perforating bottles over the bale press feeding belt.
It is no longer necessary to expensively retrofit perforators in the press
chute.

SEP-O-MAT
Paper Sorting Systems –
No Respect for Disruptive Material
New – Coarse Screen Inclination Angle Adjustment
|
Since
many years, SEP-O-MAT paper sorting systems from BRT have been used for
reliable sorting of paper and cardboard worldwide. The customers
appreciate this well priced system for its high selectivity.
The
SEP-O-MAT Rotor Screen is very insensitive to entangling materials. Even long foils pass the
screen into the cardboard fraction without problems. The special design of
the rotor screen allows an easy removing should cords or tapes wrap around
the first rotor elements.
The material stream is
first lead over the coarse screen. This screen consists of axles equipped
with disc screens. For optimising the screening result, the distance
between the axles and the distance of the screens on one axle can easily
be changed.
BRT now provides a new
feature, the inclination angle adjustment for coarse screens.
The option of changing the screen inclination angle provides an additional
option of adjusting the throughput rate and sorting qualitiy.
A flat screen angle achieves a high throughput rate. The material passes quickly over the screen. For a very high sorting quality, a steeper angle forces the material to
run upwards and slower. The longer
the material stays on the screen the better is the sorting result.
A fine screen can be
post-connected for separating additional material.
Sorting personnel is saved and makes the SEP-O-MAT Rotor Screen turn to
account soon.

Japanese
License Partner visits BRT
|
Managing
Director Manfred Bayer was glad to welcome Mr. Yo Osada from
JFE
Environmental Solutions Cooperation in Yokohama.
In June 2007, Mr.
Osada visited Tecklenburg for learning the latest technical developments
and novelties of BRT.
Both companies have been cooperating closely since many years.
In
1999, JFE president Higuchi Nariyoshi and Manfred Bayer signed the license
agreement permitting the manufacturing of SCHLITZ-O-MAT Bag Openers in
Yokohama
for the Asian markets.
In 2005 Mr. Bayer visited JFE and their workshops. He also travelled to
some reference sites in Japan.
The
Know- How from Tecklenburg is highly valued in Japan.
The
recycling branch calls the SCHLITZ-O-MAT Bag Opener of BRT the Number One
worldwide. Also in Japan
this Bag Opener with the difficult name found its way into the market very
easily and is highly valued as a solid, durable machine with low servicing
requirements.
Since 2007 BRT intensified their activities in Asia. New sales partners in
Korea
and
China
make BRT confident to become even stronger in these
markets.
WEEE
Recycling –
New Fields of Application for proven Technology |
In
March, a German a specialist company for WEEE recycling started a new
sorting plant. There, small and medium sized parts of category 3 are being
processed.
Materials like computers, telephones, or DVD players are different in form
and size.
They must be sorted and dismantled.
For
achieving an optimal sorting result, the input material has to be
dispersed the best possible.
The
company found the concept BRT suggested for preparing the material in an
optimal way very convincing. For this demanding task BRT uses the proven
DOS-O-MAT Feed and Metering Hopper with integrated CARG-O-MAT Moving Floor
Conveyor.
Feed and Metering Hoppers from BRT are used for the most different
materials such as waste paper, MSW, construction and demolition waste,
commercial waste, RDF, or biodegradables.
A front-end loader fills the material into the hopper. Once filled, the
material is transported automatically to the discharge end.
The filling personnel can do other work until the hopper has to be filled
again. The discharge speed can be adjusted according to operational
requirements.
The
integrated CARG-O-MAT Moving Floor Conveyor transports the material
continuously from the hopper to the subsequent sorting processes.
The CARG-O-MAT Moving Floor Conveyor consists of push-boards moving
forward and backwards in groups of three. Its solid steel construction and
the easy adjusting of the transport speed make this BRT product ideal for
processing of WEEE material. In contrast to a belt conveyor, the material
on the Moving Floor Conveyor can not jam or damage the conveyor belt.
The WEEE material is reliably transported and falls singularized and
continuous onto the discharge belt for further processing.
International Sales Meeting
|
On
May 10 and 11, 2007 BRT invited its international sales partners to
Tecklenburg. Most of the foreign colleagues were able to attend this
meeting and travelled to Tecklenburg from the

| SORT-O-MAT Ballistic
Separator |
Material
sorting based on ballistic separation is suitable for the most different
products. It is a simple as precise. BRT
offers this proven system under the name of SORT-O-MAT Ballistic Separator.
The SORT-O-MAT Ballistic Separator separates the parts in a material
stream using their individual physical properties.
The input material is fed onto an inclined surface rotating at a
horizontal axle. This so-called paddle transports the materials in a
ballistic flight curve on the inclined surface.
Depending on the material properties the parts show different behaviours:
Lightweight and flat parts like paper or foils move upwards and are
discharged at the upper end of the paddle surface. They form the light
fraction.
Heavy, corporeal parts roll in the opposite direction. They are collected
at the lower paddle end and are discharged as heavy fraction.
The
third material category is the screen fraction. It consists of materials
falling through the perforated paddle surface. The perforation size can be
chosen according to the operational requirements.
The
intense mechanical treatment removes dirt from the components of the light
and heavy material fractions. All
is done with a separating preciseness of 90%.
BRT
supplies the SORT-O-MAT Ballistic Separator in various dimensions and
designs according to the required throughput capacity.

BAL-O-MAT Bale Breaker for Waste and Recyclables
|
For
economical storing and transport, materials are usually pressed in bales.
At their final destination they have to be broken and the material be
separated again.
A conventional method is to shredder the bales. Here however, the
investment and operating costs are high. Due to the bale dimensions,
sufficiently large machines have to be provided for. The purchase costs
and expenses for energy and wear parts are high. Consequently, the
operating costs amount to 1,00 to 2,50 Euro per tonne of material.
A further great disadvantage of this method lies in the fact that the bale
material is reduced to small pieces. The material is provided batchwise in
an uneven material stream.
An economical and failure-free material sorting is no longer feasible.
For achieving a high sorting quality, quantity and positive operating
results, the material must be provided to further processing in an evened
out and loosened up material stream.
With the BAL-O-MAT Bale Breaker, BRT Recycling Technologie GmbH provides
an own, long term proven solution for reliable and cost-efficient material
sorting.
This ingenious technology made BRT located in the small Westphalian city
of
Tecklenburg
known all over the world.
The bales are being placed in line or next to each other onto the Moving
Floor Conveyor.
The
material can be positioned according to requirements both in press
direction or crosswise to the breaking mechanism.
The
Moving Floor Conveyor transports the bales to the bale breaking mechanism.
BRT developed these mechanics, as well as the Moving Floor Conveyor
especially for this application. The Moving Floor Conveyor has a smooth
surface.
During the breaking process the bale can slightly give way when needed.
The material is removed layer by layer without entangling and without
material clots. It now is perfectly separated.
The sense of rotation and speed can be adjusted according to the
individual material and bale density. Also
the transport speed is variable. So, the required throughput rate
and optimal treatment of almost every material can easily be reached.
The loosened up and evened out material is prepared in an optimal way for
being presented to the downstream sorting processes. The optimal material
condition, as well as the metering according to requirement saves costs
and raises both the sorting quality and quantity
The purchase and operating costs for a BRT BAL-O-MAT Bale Breaker are
considerably lower than with using shredders.
BRT’s references range from waste paper and a large variety of plastic
material (bottles, foils, etc.) to rags, sorting rests, refuse derived
fuel, and aluminium compounds (e.g. TetraPak). ,
Visit one of the BRT reference sites and convince yourselves of the
efficiency of BRT products. BRT provides a solution also for your
material.
| Efficient
temporary storage and loading of de-inking material |
For
cost reasons,
sorting
plants increasingly load
high-quality
de-inking material in bulk instead of pressing bales for transport.
Certainly loose
material has a higher volume than bales. Thus, the appropriate hopper- and
loading technology provides a number of advantages.
The loading of bales necessarily requires a repeated treating of the
de-inking material.
It has to be pressed, piled up in the storehouse and finally be loaded per
front-end loader into the truck. After arriving in the paper mill the
bales must be broken up again for processing. Each of these production
processes is costly, requiring machines, energy, and personnel.
Looking
for alternatives to expensive bale shipping, more and more companies
change over to storing and loading of bulk material by means of elevated
hoppers.
Several of the most important recycling
companies in
Germany
and
France
rely on hopper technology with integrated CARG-O-MAT Moving Floor Conveyor
developed by the German BRT Recycling Technologie GmbH.
These customers value the elevated hoppers made by BRT as a rational and
fast means for materials handling and truck loading.
When the de-inking material leaves the sorting line a
conveyor belt transports it directly into the hopper. The hopper control
system ensures an optimal use of the hopper volume.
The elevated hopper from BRT saves handling costs,
time, and personnel.
The truck driver backs his vehicle outside against the
hall, activates the electrically driven swing gate and loads the
material. Without using a front-end loader or crane.
Now the proven Moving Floor Conveyor technology from BRT proves its
skills. The CARG-O-MAT Moving Floor Conveyor transports the material into the
vehicle. In 10 – 15 minutes all material is discharged and the truck
is ready for departure.
The loading of bales per front-end loader needs much
more time.
A
further advantage lies in utilising the expensive hall space in two
ways.
The elevated hopper from BRT is positioned in a height of approx.4,50
metres. The space below the hopper remains free for further use. The
hall floor remains clean and provides additional storage space.
Both
hopper variants shown above provide sufficient volume for two truck
loadings of approx. 25
tonnes (corresponds to 100 m²) of de-inking material.
The
BRT hoppers are made in a lightweight and solid coffered steel sheet
design. An integrated CARG-O-MAT Moving Floor Conveyor, hydraulic
drives and a complete electrical control system complement this unique
design. The discharge side of the hopper can be equipped with an
electrically driven swing gate..
Like
all BRT products, the elevated hopper stands out by a long service
life and robustness. Low
servicing requirements and drive elements easily accessible even when
the hopper is full make maintenance work cheap and fast.
Bag
Splitters for MSW and Commercial Waste?
|
Bag splitters were designed for
processing of lightweight packaging material.
Consequently, they are almost only used for recovery of such materials.
Should this be all bag splitters could be used for?
Since 15 years, the German BRT Recycling Technologie GmbH has been showing
other interesting fields of application for this proven system.
As sole manufacturer of
bag splitters in the market, BRT designs machines for processing of MSW
and commercial waste. The BRT machines are successfully in use worldwide.
Under the name of SCHLITZ-O-MAT Bag Opener the patented BRT design became
a well known brand at tearing speed. The low wear and low servicing
requirements contributed to the rapid worldwide success.
Since delivery of the first machine in 1995, to date 260 SCHLITZ-O-MAT Bag
Openers were built for the international markets. BRT supplied the first
Bag Opener for processing of MSW as early as 1997. It was built fo the
waste disposal facilities of the Libanese capital Beirut.
By now the greater part of this metropolis goes through seven BRT Bag
Openers. Further machines of the same type were sold to North and South
America,
Scandinavia
,
Great Britain
and
France
. The SCHLITZ-O-MAT machines are manufactured under license in
Japan
for supplying the Asian markets.
For being able to cope with heavy, inhomogeneous materials and rising
throughput rates the SCHLITZ-O-MAT Bag Opener has been constantly advanced.
Under the type of MSW, three working widths for heaviest materials and odd
sized material components were designed. In 2005, BRT developed
SCHLITZ-O-MAT MSW 1-21 for one of the biggest Italian recyclers and
customers in the
United Arab Emirates
. This macine type processes 40 tonnes of material per hour.
Bag Openers for household and commercial waste are a good alternative to
using shredders. The first impressing factor is the lower purchase price.
The lower power consumption, lower servicing costs, and long service life
reduce the operating costs. Thanks to its special design the SCHLITZ-O-MAT
Bag Opener is well prepared for coping with disruptive materials.
The SCHLITZ-O-MAT Bag Opener opens the bags leaving its contents almost
untouched
The ripping drum separates the material and provides an even material
stream which is optimally prepared for subsequent sorting processes. A
special sensoric system and the special regulation system help to avoid
material jam and breakings of the material flow.
Large recycling companies like e.g. Onyx, Veolia or Remondis are availing
themselves of this BRT technology.
